Merry Baskin was the first planner at Saatchi’s on Madison Avenue in 1984 (so that makes her a Mad Woman as well). Jane Newman then poached her to Chiat/Day/NY. After eight years she returned to Europe and ran London’s biggest planning department at JWT — "the University of Advertising".
In 2001, Merry founded Baskin Shark, (where brands move forward or die!), a brand consultancy, focusing on strategy and communications development, and craft skills training.
Baskin Shark offers a range of practical courses and workshops designed for planners (and strategy-oriented account people, brand managers, marketers, even creatives) at all levels of experience.
She writes a Best Practice column for Admap, is the most downloaded author on WARC, and the principal trainer for the UK APG. In 2012, she was appointed a Visiting Fellow at London’s New College of the Humanities.
